Breastfeeding Works!: Simplifying breastfeeding in the 21st century

Women have been breastfeeding since the dawn of time so why even write a book called Breastfeeding Works? For author and lactation consultant, Robyn Noble, it is her mission to erase misconceptions about breastfeeding. In our modern world, there are many barriers preventing mothers from breastfeeding: Breastfeeding in Western countries is beset with poor advice and too little understanding of how it actually works. Health professionals' training in breastfeeding management is generally superficial. Over the past 100 years, commercial interests have subverted the truth about breastfeeding with false messages. Breastfeeding Works! cuts to the heart of how to simplify breastfeeding so that it does indeed work! This book supplies practical techniques that ensure breastfeeding is a source of joy rather than distress, right from the first feed. With diagrams and hundreds of colour photos, it offers fresh insights into the problems that can threaten breastfeeding and suggests many different ways to resolve them. Breastfeeding Works! will raise awareness of the issues surrounding breastfeeding, how these impact on outcomes and how to achieve great results that satisfy both practitioners and mothers. While primarily written for health care providers, this book is also a manual for 21st century mothers.
